As a writer, it doesn’t do to just spend all of your days writing. Sure, that’s what they all tell you to do, but eventually you’ll run out of steam. You could go outside and adventure your part of the world, but you could also nestle up with a really good book and study your craft in the process.

Reading, for writers, isn’t just a beloved past time anymore. It’s a way to understand the craft as it is, to study the syntax and vocabulary of authors in your genre, to recognize the trends and whats fresh and new.

Maybe, all of these are just excuses to spend our time reading.

That’s totally cool,too.

Here is a short list of books that I’m really excited to read in 2017.

Patricia Briggs pulled me into a world of magic unlike others. Her characters feel too real. They have issues, and flaws, and hang-ups, and are wonderfully developed. That doesn’t happen for all writers, sorry to say. At least, not when building a world of fantasy along side it.

This is book 10 in the Mercy Thompson series. Can you tell I’m particularly invested?

I think, by now, many of us are familiar with Sarah J. Maas and her amazing ability to put our hearts through the wringer. In the third installment of the ACOTAR series, Feyre is in the hands of her abusive ex-fiance and her sisters are newly formed fae creatures. I have a few ideas on what’s going to happen and that includes Nesta/Cassian smut.

Please, Maas.

My newest hero, Bardugo, has taken on my favorite superhero. That’s right. Leigh Bardugo wrote a YA story surrounding our favorite’s amazon’s younger years before she donned the controversial costume.

I am beyond excited for this because Wonder Woman is my all time favorite hero. Fingers crossed that the movie is just as good!

Bardugo also has The Language of Thorns coming out in September as well, a collection of fairy tales from the Grishaverse!

These are my must haves for the coming year! I can’t pick one over the other because I am simply so excited for each and every one of them.

Still, try not to break my heart too badly, Maas.
